Delia Elizabeth "Libbie" Wade Cameron

Delia Elizabeth "Libbie" Wade was the daughter of Frederick Sovereign Wade (1835 - 1925) and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth "Bettie" Chandler (1854 - 1926).  Libbie was the yongest daugther among Frederick's 15 children. Frederick was born in Canada and his parents migrated to Illinois in 1844 and then to Texas in 1857.  Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Sovereign Wade knew each other and just after Lincoln's election as President of the United States, Lincoln consulted with Frederick about Texas' position on succession.  Frederick told him that if a war broke out, he would go with Texas.  Frederick enlisted with the 4th Regiment, Texas Cavalry (4th Mounted Volunteers) Company E.  Frederick was captured in 1862 during the Civil War and after his release he returned to Bastrop County where he continued as a teacher until his death in 1925.

On April 17, 1917 Libbie married Chester Clayton Cameron in Lee County, Texas.  In 1920, the Cameron famliy lived at 305 N. Marsalis. In 1927,  they moved to 405 E. 5th Street until 1942. when they moved to Houston for a few years. They later settled in Austin where they lived the rest of their lives.  Libby and Clayton had two daughters, Nan Elizabeth Cameron Elkins and Carey Jane Cameron.  

Libbie was extremely active in social clubs.  Libbie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. *See article to the right where she was voted Queen at a pagent during the grand chapter session, Order of the Eastern Star, held in Mineral Wells, Texas.
